9H Research Funds UW Student Research Projects and Senior Design Competition

October 20, 2021

While last year saw the first ever 9H Research $5K Senior Design Challenge with 31 students participating, we are happy to announce the return of the competition this year! In fact, we plan on making it an annual event where students design and build projects that support and enhance Wyoming while developing their engineering skills. Our two topics this year are a Lithium-Ion Recycling Facility and a 9H SmartRanch™ Solar design.
The construction of the 0.5MW Solar Generation Research Facility will break ground this Fall 2021 and include the latest state of the art thin film Series 6 panels donated by First Solar, and single axis DuraTrack trackers purchased from ATI. This facility will help the 9H Research Foundation goals of:

  • Funding student projects and scholarship,
  • Being a hub for innovation,
  • Engaging students with practical research,
  • Elevating UW & energy research, and
  • Stimulating the Wyoming Economy.

We are also participating in this year’s University of Wyoming Giving Day, taking place from Noon to Noon on October 20th-21st. The 9H Research Foundation will match the first $5,000 donated to the 9H Campaign. Additionally, co-founder and UW alumnus Gene Humphrey has also issued a generous challenge: a $10,000 donation is triggered when 50 donors give to the 9H Research Foundation’s campaign on Giving Day.

P.S. Donations fund the UW Foundation, and not directly the 9H Research Foundation. Donations will be used for 9H Research Foundation student projects, programs, grants, scholarships, or other activities that benefit students.
